Air Conditioners & Chillers: What's The Difference?

Dubai witnesses the hottest temperature ranges during summers. It may reach as high as 45°C which gives rise to the demand for air cooling systems. Two commonly used systems are air conditioners and chillers that often create confusion among people. While both these systems are used for the same purpose that is regulating the temperature of air, they work differently. If you are also confused between the two, this blog is for you. In this blog, I have discussed the basic differences and how both these systems work. So, let's start.

Air Conditioners:-
As the name suggests, air conditioners are used for regulating the air temperature inside a room. It comes with different settings and can be used to convert a high temperature air into cool air, and vice versa. The system also contains a feature that can be used to dehumidify a humid room. In this way, these systems are very useful for places with hot weather such as Dubai. Now let's see how an air conditioner works.

Let's assume the system is set on cooling. In this setting, it works on a basic refrigeration principle. A condenser is used to remove heat and is placed on the hot side of the AC. Sometimes, the condenser coil may not work properly if the air conditioner is old. Don't worry; you can easily get it from a condenser coil manufacturerin UAE. Condenser plays an important role as it transfers heat from the hot air to water or fluid, thereby cooling the air and circulating it in the room. So, it is important to ensure quality while purchasing it from a condenser coil manufacturer in UAE.

Chillers:-
Chillers are also used to cool air and create a comfortable environment inside a closed area. However, it differs from an air conditioner in terms of working and application. Chillers are basically used for medium to large applications and there is no need to install dedicated systems in each room. You can reach a water chiller supplier in Dubai and get it installed if you have a large scale cooling requirement. These are actually centralised systems that can fulfill the cooling requirements of an entire building. Let's see how chillers work.

The system works on a vapour compression/absorption cycle. The heat is first removed from a liquid and this cooled liquid is then circulated through pipes in the entire building which dehumidifies and cools the air. Chillers are basically water cooled and air cooled. Most people prefer water chillers because of its efficiency which can be installed with the help of a water chiller supplier in Dubai

In a nutshell, if we talk about the difference between air conditioners and chillers, it is in terms of their working and applications. While air conditioners are ideal for small scale requirements, chillers can be used for an entire residential or commercial building.
